Sceloporus jarrovii, Yarrow's Spiny Lizard, found at Little Dam on the Basin Trail,
Chirichahua Mountains, Arizona. This species ranges from southeastern Arizona/southwestern New Mexico southward in the Sierra Madre Occidental to central Zacatecas, Mexico. In the past, this species was considered a subspecies of the Mountain Spiny Lizard. There are several subspecies, ranges depicted to the right. The nominate form is the most northerly group; S. j. minor has a range shown in orange; the range of S. j. immucronatus is shown in yellow; the small blue area is the range of S. j. oberon; while the small dot at the bottom is the range of S. j. sugillatus; the purple oblong dot (which is the most northerly of the small dots, indicates the range of S. j. cyanostictus. Other sources, however, recognize only two subspecies, the nominate form and S. j. lineolateralis. Most sightings of this species occur during the months of June, July, August, and September.
