The Black Heron has a range which extends through most of Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. The Black Heron uses its wings to block the reflection of light off of water while feeding in a technique called canopy feeding, see image below. In North America, the Reddish Egret utilizes a similar technique. These images are framegrabs taken from video recorded in The Gambia during November 2018 - video link.
