The Whimbrel is a cosmopolitan species, the subspecies shown in these video framegrabs is of the nominate form which has a range which extends across northern Eurasia during breeding and on southern coasts the rest of the year. There are eight subspecies which are currently recognized. The individuals shown here were recorded in The Gambia during November 2018 - video link.
